Where can I find white waterproofs for stalking in snow?

Q) I have been looking out for waterproof “whites” for stalking in snow and for wildfowling. They are thin and light, as used by Royal Marines and ski troops. Can you advise me where I can obtain them?

A) Though white camouflage clothing can be extremely useful, it is relatively difficult to obtain in this country for the simple reason that, outside the Scottish Highlands, it snows so rarely that it is not viable for most suppliers to stock it.

A lightweight slipover jacket and trousers which cover your everyday shooting kit is the most cost-effective approach. I have used my lightweight cotton suit in Realtree snow camo, both in the UK and overseas, and it is very good indeed. Swedteam do a suit in Realtree Hardwoods Snow pattern, plus accessories, all of which are available from Bushwear (www.bushwear.co.uk). Another possibility is to trawl around the military surplus stores for an ex- German army snow smock. The cheapest and easiest option is an ordinary set of white decorator’s overalls. I have used these on the marsh over my fowling kit, together with a white ski hat, and they’re highly effective.
