Bird charity to give keynote address at League's shooting conference
The RSPB says it has not compromised its neutral stance on gameshooting despite agreeing to speak at an anti-shooting conference organised by the League Against Cruel Sports (LACS).
RSPB head of investigations Bob Elliot will give the keynote address at the Gunning for Change symposium in July, at which LACS’ film, made using covertly filmed footage, about the shooting industry, Gunsmoke & Mirrors, will be screened for the first time.
Mr Elliot said the bird charity was “increasingly concerned” about the level of illegal raptor persecution, which, he said, was affecting the population of species such as the hen harrier.
He told Shooting Times: “We reserve the right to talk to any organisation involved with the wider issues around legalised fieldsports, and, as head of the investigations team, I and my colleagues attend many meetings and talks.
