Grousekeeper's appeal fails

Derbyshire grousekeeper fails to have his conviction overturned

Following the failure last week of a Derbyshire grousekeeper to overturn his conviction for attempting to kill birds of prey, the RSPB has again said that land managers should be held accountable for wildlife crimes committed by their staff.

Glenn Brown was convicted in June last year of seven wildlife and animal welfare offences. He had been sentenced to 100 hours of community service and ordered to pay £10,000 costs.

During the appeal hearing at Derby Crown Court, Brown’s defence attacked the integrity of RSPB staff, claiming that they had planted incriminating evidence. However, the judge dismissed the appeal and ordered Brown to pay a further £7,000 costs.
