The Welsh government is seeking to manage the impact of wild deer on the local environment

A five-year action plan to manage the growing number of deer in Wales has been published by the Welsh government.

It calls for a joint approach by public and private landowners and managers to control the impacts of wild deer on agriculture, forestry and vulnerable habitats.

John Griffiths, minister for environment and sustainable development, said: “Deer are a valued element of the biodiversity of Wales, and we want this to continue.

“However, as changes in land management practices have encouraged deer populations to spread and increase, in some parts of Wales this has resulted in deer having negative impacts on some of our agricultural crops, woodland and other habitats.”
