Gun Quarter's possible reprieve

Birmingham's historic Gun Quarter may yet be saved

Campaigners hoping to save Birmingham’s Gun Quarter from being renamed St George and St Chad have told Shooting Times that they remain positive after a meeting with local councillor Tim Huxtable.

Tony Treadwell, the campaign’s founder, said that a permanent boundary for the area had now been agreed after consultation with local historian Professor Carl Chin, and that signs would be erected to inform visitors about the area’s history.

Mr Treadwell said: “We are really pleased with the results of this meeting. The council has agreed that no-one wants to be changing history.

“We want to make sure the Gun Quarter remains and that people going there can see where it is and learn about it. If we can get this done, it puts the history of the area in good stead.”
