Hunting - Opinion poll rejects repeal

Sunday, 14 November 2010

A YouGov poll of 3,400 people revealed that 59 per cent oppose the ban being overturned

Fewer than one in five people in the UK would support a repeal of the 2004 Hunting Act, according to a poll commissioned by the League Against Cruel Sports (LACS). The YouGov poll of more than 3,400 people revealed that 59 per cent oppose the ban being overturned, while 63 per cent disagree that the ban amounts to an infringement of civil liberties. Seventy-seven per cent want to see the hunting ban properly enforced. Countryside Alliance spokesman Tim Bonner said: “The LACS figures are a long way from its more ridiculous claims about public opinion and in many ways are not surprising. They reveal a large amount of confusion about what is going on in the hunting field, which is not surprising given the confusion around the law. The question LACS has not asked is ‘Do you think the Hunting Act is working?’, which is not surprising, since the response is consistently ‘no’ as supported by 59 per cent of respondents the last time the question was asked.”
