Scottish Natural Heritage picks three British Deer Society members for its deer management advisory team
Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) has appointed a new deer advisory panel to help to ensure a smooth transfer of Deer Commission for Scotland responsibilities to SNH following the merger of the two organisations on 1 August 2010.
The four-member transitional panel will provide advice to SNH staff and board members on deer welfare, public safety and deer management. The panel has been appointed for three years while the organisation develops all the skills necessary to fulfil its new statutory role.
The four members of the deer panel are: John Bruce, representative for the British Deer Society (BDS) in Scotland, farmer and land manager; Peter Mayhew, RSPB conservation manager in North Scotland and former BASC head of conservation; Richard Cooke, factor for the Dalhousie Estates; and Niall Rowantree, sporting manager for West Highland Hunting and former chief ranger for the Forestry Commission.
