The mauling of twin babies in their London home has highlighted the need to control fox numbers in urban areas

Calls were made last week for greater efforts to control foxes in urban areas following an attack on twin nine-month-old girls in Homerton, East London.

The twins, Isabella and Lola Koupparis, both received arm wounds while Lola also suffered wounds to her face. Their mother Pauline described as “horrendous” the attack, which took place after a fox entered the house through patio doors on the night of 5 June. Mrs Koupparis added: “This incident has to be used to put pressure on the relevant bodies to act on the fox problem. It would help me feel that a negative could be made a positive.”

Her call was echoed by London mayor Boris Johnson, who said: “People like to think foxes are a wonderful addition to the flora and fauna of London but they are undoubtedly a pest.”
