BASC’s Wildlife Habitat Trust funds more than 3,000 acres

Loans made by the Wildlife Habitat Trust (WHT) to enable wildfowling clubs to buy land have now topped the £2million mark, the trust revealed last week. The loans have paid for more than 3,000 acres of land purchases for clubs across the country.

The WHT is dedicated to raising and distributing funds to help with the acquisition of land either for shooting, especially wildfowling, or for nature conservation or both. It was set up in 1986 by members of BASC.

Tim Russell, secretary of the WHT, said reaching the £2million mark was an important milestone for the trust. He said: “I am delighted that the WHT has enabled wildfowling clubs to buy land. This is a significant achievement. The WHT has seen an increase in applications for loans from wildfowling clubs during the last 12 months and I am sure this will continue as clubs realise the importance of owning their own land.”
