BASC launches new online General Election campaign

BASC launches new online General Election campaign

Parliamentary candidates' views on shooting are being sought

BASC is seeking shooters' help to find out what their prospective parliamentary candidates think of their sport

In the run-up to the General Election, BASC has launched an online election campaign site through which shooters can discover prospective parliamentary candidates’ attitudes towards the sport.

The site, which went live last week, will cover all candidates in the next General Election and allows voters quickly to access the candidates standing in their own constituency and to canvass their views on shooting.

BASC’s director of communications Christopher Graffius said: “Traditional campaigns involve letter writing and paper questionnaires. They can be cumbersome, expensive and ineffectual. We’ve found that candidates find answering emails to be convenient and straightforward. It lets voters address the candidates hoping to represent them on a constituency basis, while allowing BASC to build up a database of opinion from those who will form the next Parliament.”

Echoing the importance of the Internet to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008, BASC’s election campaign has been designed to reflect the growth in computer use, the power of the web to disseminate information, and the ease of using email as a lobbying and communications tool. It is open for both BASC members and others to use.
