Dartford Clay Shooting Club’s £20m plans

Dartford Clay Shooting Club (DCSC), in Kent, will continue with its £20million plans to create a “world-class venue” despite missing out on hosting the Olympic shooting in 2012.

The club is hoping to submit a planning application to Dartford Borough Council in the next few weeks. When built, the new facilities will enable the club to hold top-level international competitions and it will have a new shooting range.

It was hoped that the plans would convince London 2012 organisers to switch the Olympic shooting competition to the Kent club. However, the Olympic Board confirmed on 19 March that the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich is to host the 2012 Olympic shooting, despite the venue failing to leave a lasting legacy to the sport.

Richard Bailey, spokesman for the Dartford Clay shooting Club, is looking to the future, “We can only stand openmouthed in astonishment at the decision taken by the Olympic Board. At Dartford we could have built a legacy for the sport of shooting for the original £25million budget. However, our application to build a world-class venue, which will attract huge inward investment, will continue unchanged.”
