The National Gamekeepers’ Organisation (NGO) has formed a new Deer Branch to help improve British deer management and give due weight to the widespread interest in deer within the NGO.
Modelled on the existing NGO Moorland Branch, the NGO Deer Branch will replace the UK Association of Professional Deer Managers (UKAPDM)and enable the NGO to identify those members who have an interest in deer, so that they can be better serviced by the organisation.
The UKAPDM’s founder, Jan Andrews, told Shooting Times: “I am very sorry to see UKAPDM fail , but over the past few years membership has declined and it was no longer functioning as it should.”
According to the UKAPDM constitution, its existing funds (£1,400) will be paid to the British Deer Society.
If UKAPDM members wish to join the NGO, they will receive free membership for the first year. Those who do not wish to join the NGO will be offered a year’s free membership of the BDS.
The NGO’s David Whitby said: “Having a new Deer Branch will bring focus to
our work on deer management, use the wealth of knowledge and experience among our members and encourage the professional stalker’s view to be heard at national level.”
The NGO Deer Branch will hold its inaugural general meeting on 27 March at
