Natural England (NE) has announced a £5.5million boost for England’s threatened biodiversity.

Sharks, butterflies, toads, wetlands and woodlands are among the species and habitats due to benefit from the funding.

On 6 October, the government body unveiled its funding for key conservation projects run by organisations such as the National Trust and the Herpetological Conservation Trust.

Natural England’s Sir Martin Doherty said: “We want to improve the fortunes of some of our most precious species and habitats.”
