Sunday, 17 August 2008

Rare gundog breeds are among the Kennel Club Art Gallery’s forthcoming exhibition

Rare gundog breeds are among the Kennel Club Art Gallery’s forthcoming exhibition, which is being held from 26 August until 14 November.

The exhibition will be dedicated to British and Irish vulnerable breeds and will display a wide variety of paintings, artefacts and ephemera all paying tribute to rarer breeds of dog, such as the field spaniel (pictured).

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to view many items that have never been on public display before, each representing one of the 24 breeds featuring in the exhibition. Work by well-known artists such as Arthur Wardle, Frances Fairman and F. T. Daws will be displayed alongside pieces by contemporary artists such as Stuart Mallard, Jessica Holm and Jane Howells. Items of particular interest include a field spaniel trophy, presented by the Maharaja of Patiala and an oil painting of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Greyhound by John Wootton.

The Kennel Club Art Gallery is located at 1 Clarges Street, Piccadilly, London. For more information, tel 020 7518 1064 or email artgallery@thekennelclub.org.uk .
