Duke of Edinburgh tours the CLA Game Fair

Thursday, 31 July 2008

His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was taken on a tour of The CLA Game Fair by CLA president Henry Aubrey-Fletcher

His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was treated to a tour of The CLA Game Fair by CLA president Henry Aubrey-Fletcher on 26 July. Prince Philip started the tour with a visit to the CLA’s Just Ask campaign, where he heard how the organisation was working to persuade people not to buy food without asking where it came from.

In the regional food village he chatted to garlic producers, Welsh pasty-makers and lemonade makers suggesting to The CLA Game Fair’s host, The Duke of Marlborough, that he should try growing his own lemons.

In the fishing village Prince Philip met representatives of the Salmon & Trout Association before watching a series of casting demonstrations on the River Glyme. He also chatted to members of the public and exhibitors. He met the Great Britain Olympic Clay Pigeon shooting team and visited the CLA’s Exploring Nature area, as well as presenting the CLA Long Service awards (see page seven) before himself being presented with The CLA Game Fair Contribution to the Countryside award.

CLA president Henry Aubrey-Fletcher said: “It was my pleasure to welcome His Royal Highness to the showground. He knows exactly how the countryside works and has an enormous appreciation for it, which is clear when you talk to him. He understands the current problems facing farmers today, as he is a farmer himself.”
