The trust is keen to hear from anyone out shooting woodcock this season.

The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust is conducting new research which aims to identify the origins of the elusive woodcock.

The project starts in spring 2008 and will help scientists to pinpoint the birthplace of each bird through analysis of stable isotope ratios in feathers, which act as markers of the place where the feathers were grown.

The trust is keen to hear from anyone out shooting woodcock this season and hopes that they will provide a wing and a leg from any ringed birds shot and supply these together with the ring or ring details.

For further information on the trust's woodcock work, or to contribute woodcock wing and leg samples, please contact Dr Andrew Hoodless, tel 01425 651031.
