A new national survey is being launched to identify the UK's oldest trees.
A new national survey is being launched to identify the UK's oldest trees.
Currently there is no register of ancient trees but it is estimated that there are about 500,000 ancient specimens.
The UK still has more ancient trees than any other country in Northern Europe so the survey is expected to take at least 5 years.
