Shooting Times looks ahead to this year's CLA Game Fair, to be held at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire between Friday 23 July and Sunday 25 July

Ragley Hall, in Warwickshire, is this year’s venue for The CLA Game Fair, which will be held from Friday 23 July to Sunday 25 July.

The shooting exhibition is the biggest and most comprehensive to be held in the UK every year, attracting shotgun, rifle and airgun enthusiasts from home and abroad. The clay line is set up to appeal to everyone, with lots of have-a-go stands as well as the 40-bird competition that was introduced at Belvoir Castle last year. The clay line and airgun ranges also offer novices visiting The CLA Game Fair a great introduction to shooting.

Gunmakers galore

Gunmakers’ Row is the most visited area of the event, offering the opportunity to view the most comprehensive range of guns and accessories to be seen in one location. This year, the organisers are delighted to welcome for the first time Alan Rhone, the UK distributor for Kreighoff, York Guns and George Gibbs Gun & Rifle Makers. There will also be exhibits from other famous names of the gunmaking world, such as Holland & Holland, Purdey and William Powell.

Fishing fanatics

The Fishing Village will have many new fishing disciplines on show this year. Having previously focused on game fishing, organisers are introducing carp, coarse and sea fishing exhibits. There will be new features, competitions and numerous have-a-go events as well. The CLA Game Fair will be one of the highlights of this year’s National Fishing Month with which it coincides.

Thrilling gundog displays

The Gundog International, the Euro Challenge and the retriever and spaniel displays on the Gundog Grandstand will provide exciting viewing. For those who enjoy working their own dogs there are plenty of events to enter, with daily prizes and the chance to win a CLA Game Fair rosette.

A stunning location

The CLA Game Fair always keeps fieldsports as the main thrust of the show, but another of the fair’s great attractions over the years is that it moves location, giving regular visitors the opportunity to visit a different part of the country. The beautiful Ragley Hall offers a central location near Alcester, in Warwickshire, and is within easy reach of the M5, M6, M40 and M42 motorways. Birmingham, Northampton, Oxfordshire and Bristol are all within 50 miles of Alcester, while London, Southampton, Taunton, Swansea, Manchester, Doncaster and Newmarket are all within 100 miles.

A fantastic camping site

A third of all Game Fair visitors stay in local hotels, B&Bs or pubs, but many prefer to camp on site. The CLA Game Fair organisers have planned a 2,000-pitch caravan park with showers, electricity, shops, a bar and places to eat. More than 6,000 people can enjoy the atmosphere of the caravan park, which this year will be open from Wednesday 21 July through to Monday 26 July. Those of you who are considering booking a pitch may also like to know that the organisers have teamed up with Praxistents, a company that offers the service of hiring tents and all related equipment. Full details can be found
on the Game Fair website, www.gamefair.co.uk, together with further details of all that will be happening at this year’s show.
